Kathe is a well respected attorney. In addition to being the managing member of  Berning & Associates, LLC., she is currently a foreclosure mediator for the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program and a family court mediator for the Second Judicial District Court Department of Family Court Services Mediation Program. With more than 24 years of experience, including serving as the Chief Criminal Deputy Attorney for the City of Reno, Kathe is a dedicated attorney who helped to establish the paralegal program at Truckee Meadows Community College. She has served on the Publications Committee of the Nevada State Bar.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Nevada Reno (UNR), a master’s degree in counseling from UNR, and post master’s in mediation and a Juris Doctorate from the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific.

For over 27 years Muriel has set the standard of excellence for the practice of law in Nevada. As "of Counsel" with the firm, Muriel brings considerable expertise to the practice. She was recently awarded the Nevada Legal Services "Lawyer of the Year" for her services to indigent litigants.  Prior to joining Berning & Associates, Muriel practiced family law, general civil law, criminal defense and appellate law in the law firm of Skelly & Sheehan. She served as the Family Court Facilitator and Director of the Family Court Self Help Center which she created in 1998. She has piloted new court programs such as the GAP (Guardian Angel Project) for the representation of children in guardianship cases. She has also sat as a pro tempore judge for the Reno Justice Court and the Sparks Justice Court.   She earned her bachelor's degree from Old College and her Juris Doctorate from Nevada School of Law, Reno.
